Heard on the Hill Term 2, Week 3
From the Principal
Bonjour à tous, and Wanju
Happy (belated) Mother’s Day to all the mothers for yesterday. I hope that you were able to enjoy the wonderful Autumn weather we have been experiencing. Personally, I got to see both my mothers who are in their 90’s. Every chance is a gift.
I am really grateful to the students and teachers of students doing NAPLAN this week. I wish them well and hope that the preparation that they have put in comes to fruition. Please encourage them and ask what we can do to enable them to get the best mark that they are able. We are all wishing them well.
As part of the Accountability Framework, there are two areas that we constantly focus on
- Quality Teaching
- Learning Environment
Kelly and Andrew now regularly provide you with information to keep you focused on those two areas within our school. In the coming week, the Quality Teacher Framework will be released. It has been released in a draft and school leadership teams are making comments and providing feedback.
Have a great week.

Nuts and Bolts
As the cold weather approaches please stay on top of the students with being in uniform. There are a number of winter cost options from the uniform shop. Please let me know if students cannot get any of the options that we have.
There was only one nomination for the staff board member position. Thank you and congratulations to Adam McGill.
I continue to encourage you to nominate for committees. These are a great way to have your voice heard, give input to the direction of the school and provide feedback. Currently, we have
- Finance committee
- Leadership Team (representation from your Learning Area meetings)
- School board
- Building and Grounds Committee
- Workload Advisory Committee
- Year 12 Presentation Night Committee
- Technologies Committee
Coming Soon
- Teaching and Learning Committee
To access the Leadership Minutes from last week, see below.
Workload Advisory Committee
At least once a term, I ask for staff to make submissions to the link provided, regarding any workload issues they are experiencing. If you have a workload issue, the first action is to speak to your line manager, as many issues can be resolved quickly and easily.
For those workload issues where the line manager is unable to provide a solution, please make a submission to the Workload Advisory Committee.
This is a group of staff who meet, discuss the submissions and try to work out a solution. The group includes the Principal, the Union Rep and some teacher reps.
We need to advertise for new staff representatives on the WAC, as the previous staff (Thank you Nick Mulligan, Mychelle Mahar and David Waddell) have completed two years in that role. The commitment is usually only 1 hour a term, to attend the meeting and go through the submissions. I didn't get any takers last time I asked in Term 1, so I am hoping some staff will now put their hand up for this.
Please send me an email by COB Friday 13 May if you are interested in this position. If I receive more than three nominations, I will run an election process. Thanks!
Covid-19 One-Off Incentive Funding
As part of the state government’s School Camps COVID-19 Assistance Package, an incentive fund has been established to encourage schools to provide day camp activities following the introduction of high and very high caseload health measures in Term 1.
The incentive fund is open to all schools seeking to establish a day activity, such as day camps and/or incursions through a third-party camp or activity provider during Term 2. This initiative means students will have opportunities to participate in camp-like experiences for educational outcomes, skills building and student wellbeing.
The incentive funding allocation will be based on the size of a school:
- Schools with an enrolment below 900 students are eligible for an allocation up to $850.
- Schools with an enrolment of 900 or more students will be eligible for an allocation up to $750.
The application form is found on Ikon.
The closing date for applications is 3.00 pm Friday 27 May 2022.
Thought Shapes
A very simple reflective tool to use with students. Give each student a different shaped card. Students can then respond to the shape either through writing or by talking with another student who has a different shape or with a student who has the same shape. This is just a variation on standard reflection questions posed to students but using a shape, which changes their mindset.
Semester 1 Examinations
Examinations requiring editing or photocopying should be handed to the Front Office asap.
Reporting
One good strategy is to enter the ABEs in RTP for a class immediately after the first assessment. The ABE then reflects where the student is at based on their effort and application observed leading into that task or activity. For each subsequent task the teacher tweaks the ABE so that by the time comes to reporting there is already an accurate observation about the student entered.
To do that it may help to actually give everyone a copy of the ABEs so below is the descriptors agreed to by teachers to ‘judge’ a student.
A copy of this (ABE Descriptors) is located in Admin_Storage (Department>Reporting).
Expression of Interest – Literacy and Numeracy Role 2022
We are seeking expressions of interest for the Literacy/Numeracy Coordinator (LNC) for 2022. This is a 0.2 FTE position and may be linked to a teaching position up to 0.8 FTE. The LNC must strategise the following roles:

· Develop an intervention plan that includes timing, resources, and personnel
· Coordinate personnel or provide instruction directly
2. Delivery of intensive Literacy and/or Numeracy classes
· Liaise with English/Mathematics PCs
3. NAPLAN data
· Analyse NAPLAN data at individual and whole school level
· Liaise with LA PCs to plan support and intervention
· Individual student intervention program
4. Take a lead role in the Whole School Numeracy Committee (to commence in 2022)
Lift Concrete Pour
The fourth concrete pour for the new lift in the quadrangle will take place WEDNESDAY 11 MAY. The pour requires a crane to pump concrete over the second story roof and is scheduled to occur between 6.00am 9.00am. The Home Ec car park will be unavailable during this timeframe.
Bus Staircase
Construction of the bus stop staircase has been awarded to ResiCom. Building will commence Wednesday 25 May 2022 and will be completed by the end of Term 3. There may be some times during the construction that a small portion of the bitumen area in front of the bus shed will be cordoned off while retaining walls are built and paving is laid.
Technology Committee
The Technology committee is starting up again for 2022. It would be great to have a rep from each learning area, but more is better.
The first meeting will be Tuesday week 4, 3.10pm in D&T4. If you would like more info or can't make it but would like to be on the committee please let me know.
