Bonjour à tous, and Wanju
I hope that you all got out into the Djilba sunshine across the weekend to warm up a little. Today we begin our celebrations of NAIDOC. Although the weather is not what it was on the weekend, please get out into the activities this week. When engaging in our NAIDOC activities you build a more inclusive workplace, increase your knowledge of cultural identity and increase cultural safety for Aboriginal staff and students. Thank you to Kelly, Asharie, JJ and the team that have created our schedule this week.
This year’s theme keep the fire burning reminds us that we all have a part to play in building cultural awareness and responsiveness.
Thank you to all who covered for me while I was at the WASSEA conference last week. Both the Director General and Minister spoke at the conference. The minister clearly signalled that the Education Act will be reviewed to become even more inclusive. Our PIVOT program is part of our response to building the skill in teachers to be able to cater for greater diversity. My hope is that we also receive a funding model similar to NSW where imputed disabilities are equally funded as diagnosed ones. Watch that space.
The conference focused on building a strong culture for success in schools. This matches where the leadership head is at. We have a great school culture. Sustaining that requires explicit actions. We started by looking at where we thought we were on the 6-stage continuum and what we need to move further up. Where do you think we are?
The leadership team met last week to continue the work on the creation of the 2026 Year 10 timetable. Your work they presented was outstanding. It was exciting to see the collaborative manner in which they gave feedback and planning to go forward to improve the model.
Have a great week. Boorda
En Avant

Parent – Teacher Afternoon
A reminder this Thursday from 3:30-5:30 is our Semester 2 Parent Meetings. Rachel has sent out your log ins, parents have until today to make their bookings.
A small afternoon tea will be provided in the staff room from 3pm, a free coffee for teaching staff is also available.
After feedback from teachers and parents, we are hoping to ensure our meetings are running on time and we are adhering to our interview schedules.
If you have spare blocks of time during the meeting then you can be more flexible, but for many staff who are fully booked or close to it, it is important to stick to the allocated parents at the allocated times.
Please also keep in mind that while you may not have a parent meeting scheduled straight after your current meeting, the parent you are speaking to might.
See page 2 of Parent Teacher Information attachment for some basic ideas on how to end meetings on time.
Relief Lessons
It was great to get some feedback on last weeks article about leaving more detailed relief notes in Compass for our colleagues when we are absent, both about the lesson details and student information.
To the feedback I received, YES, I agree we also need to ensure our relief teachers, and internal relief staff are showing up to the classes on time, and delivering the lesson as outlined in the relief notes.
If you are having difficulty with this, please speak with your PC.
A reminder to please ensure relief notes for the whole day are entered into Compass before 8:30am, and to use the relief lesson template, attached.

NAIDOC assembly information for teachers to read to students:
NAIDOC is the National Aboriginals and Islanders Day Observance Committee. This was the name of the group that was originally responsible for organising the national NAIDOC Week activities. NAIDOC week can be traced back to 1938.
Our school has made a conscious effort over the past few years to improve our students’ understanding of aboriginal culture and history. NAIDOC week is an important part of this learning.
At the NAIDOC assembly, we ask students to enter the gym respectfully, listening to the sounds of didgeridoo playing.
We ask that you ensure hats are removed, phones are off and away, earbuds are not in ears, and that you give your full attention and respect to the speakers.
During the assembly you will be asked to stand at important moments. Please do this as quietly as possible and do the same when asked to be seated.
At the end of the assembly, you will have an opportunity to participate in the smoking ceremony. This ceremony is very important to Aboriginal people. It signifies a cleansing of the spirit. You can use your hands to grab the smoke and wash it over you as you move past.
If you have any respiratory issues, you can choose not to participate, and instead exit the assembly at the gym foyer.

Thanks to Nicki Sharpe for the discounted deal and for bringing it to my attention.
