Heard on the Hill Term 4, Week 3
Unfortunately, Mike is away this week and therefore there is no Principal's Report for this edition.

Survey My Class
It's that time of year again, when we offer teaching staff the opportunity to survey their classes to get some feedback. We offer this twice during the year, in Term 2 and again in Term 4.
The process is simple. During the dates the survey is open (14-25 Nov) you send the link to your students. They click on it and off they go. It is a good idea to actually give them some class time to complete it. They can use their iPads to do the survey.
The survey data for each individual teacher remains private to those teachers. The combined data of all staff is compiled into a report for the Executive Team, which is simply another piece of data used to inform our school improvement plans.
Participation is not compulsory, but it can be a useful process to do for your own professional development.
If you have any questions about the process, please contact Kelly on 78902.
Workload Advisory Committee
The Workload Advisory Committee will meet this term to discuss any workload issues.
If you have workload issues, please discuss them first with your line manager, as many of these can be resolved quickly and easily.
If you have an issue that cannot be resolved, please submit it via either the survey link, or on the document below (which can also be found in the School Templates folder on your desktop).
Classroom Observations
Classroom observation can be a teacher-led and teacher-driven professional development activity that looks at what works and what doesn’t. It also involves sharing insights with each other and seeking feedback to improve. It is about achieving learning improvements with the students and increasing teacher collaboration. This focus is wide ranging; behaviour management (CMS training), teaching strategies and lesson design (Instructional Framework) or curriculum delivery (Peer Consultation). Videoing is a great tool for lesson reflection.
Last week I made reference to Beginning of Class Routine as one example of peer observation and feedback. An attachment was not included so I have re-attached it for this publication. This example may provide impetus to do another classroom observations with a peer.
Welcome to a new staff member this Term: Adam Morris
Hello everyone, thank you for the warm welcome. It has been a nice move to the region and joining your school. I have been teaching Science and some Maths full time since Term 2 this year at Thornlie SHS, after having worked there and at other schools/programs over a number of years as Special needs Education Assistant while completing my Masters. I am quite passionate about science, particularly Environmental Sciences and Biology. I have been involved heavily in STEM, cross-curricular learning, and other initiatives for a few years now and have developed a passion for engaging students to develop themselves as lifelong learners, while building the skills to support this. I enjoy finding ways to engage all learners positively and am excited to see what BSHS has to offer as we are in such an amazing position to draw on local spaces and connections.
Outside of work I try to keep up with a few hobbies, I like to grow my own food, check out local nature reserves, and when time and weather permits go diving. Being new to the region, I will be looking for some local activities to get involved in as my board game and other groups are at least a few hours away now, if you have any suggestions, they are very welcome.
