Behaviour and Relationships
The last in our series of behaviour and relationships strategies brings us to the end of Term 1. What is important from this is sustaining strategies. This week’s focus will assist us with that.
Choices and Consequences
Choices and Consequences remove the feeling of poor behaviour being a personal attack on the teacher.
Establish the range of consequences
We already have an established range of consequences. Moved seating in the room, sitting outside for a timeout, learning area isolation to a buddy class, etc. Use these and any others that you may have decided upon within your learning area.
Use assertive choice direction
The principle is that if a student chooses to misbehave, not follow the rules, etc they choose to receive the consequence.
Maintain the Principle of Certainty of Severity
An important aspect of a consequence system is that students must all believe that the teacher will definitely follow through. The severity of the consequence is less critical. If consequences are not issued it undermines you.
