From The Principal
Kaya, Wanjoo,
Last week on Thursday and Friday I attended the Southwest Principals conference. The Southwest is the 3rd largest education region in WA with over 29,000 students. One session that I thought you would appreciate was a presentation by the Grattan Institute. You will know them for the research that they do that shapes the national education policy and direction.
Their report on Whole School Curriculum Planning approach was very interesting.
Here is a summary.
My expectation of you to engage in our whole school curriculum planning and delivery comes with my responsibility to make the best conditions for each of you to thrive. Hence, already you will notice the things that we do as a school to enable this so far.
- There is a scope and sequence outlining the, what and when things are taught from Year 7 to Year 10 in each learning area.
- Each learning area has curriculum leaders for each year group.
- We have an agreed delivery pedagogy in our “Shared Instructional Framework” and now with the Teaching for Impact Framework.
- We have an instructional leadership team to support staff develop their teaching practice and Peer Observation skills.
- We have re-distribute 3 of the 5 hours of whole school meeting time per term back to learning areas for collaborative planning.
There is still more that I can do to find you more time to plan great lessons. I have some ideas on that and will be trialling something at the start of Term 4. There is more that you can do in learning areas investigating and implementing the use of ready-made curriculum materials. I hope that you use this this term to think about the curriculum delivery in your learning area. If you would like to read the report, you will find it here.
Have a great week
En Avant
