Today please spare a thought for Rossmoyne SHS community. The incident that has befallen them could be any school, including us. Extremism does not happen in a vacuum or for no reason. It is often the reaction to the perception of oppression and an unjust society. We must give our students both hope that the world is good a place and also, that we can change things we don’t like through peaceful movements.
During my trip to NYC I delivered a series of Aikido classes at Columbia University. I was caught up in the “mostly” peaceful movement giving support to the Palestinian plight. This movement is sweeping across the world. For those that are old enough it is reminiscent of the anti-apartheid movement that brought about the downfall of apartheid in South Africa. It is a great example to worried, disenfranchised youth that change can be bought about peacefully. If you have any concerns regarding students please bring them to the attention of your PC.
There have been many changes across the school in staffing. Both in the Executive team and through to the classroom. Bunbury SHS has a very robust Future Leaders Framework Program. It is a great breeding ground for those wishing to advance their careers. We look to provide professional learning, coaching and acting opportunities both in our school and across the region.
Recently, I have been giving Year 10 Parent Transition presentations. The quality of our staff is one of the selling points that I make that puts Bunbury SHS ahead of other schools. It is one of the three foundations in our philosophy that makes Bunbury SHS the successful school that it is. Your professionalism in being part of your professional organisations, SCSA marking committees and volunteering your time to support students with homework classes is proof of my claim.
I know that most learning areas have been having a regular morning tea/lunch together to maintain their professional contact and learning area direction during the wage negotiations. I’m glad that we have been able to provide the structure for you to do this. I will be supporting those learning areas this week and also visiting during this time to personally thank you for your efforts.
I only managed to visit the senior school classes last week, but I will be back in other classes this week.
Have a great week,
En Avant.
