Bonjour à tous, and Wanju

Last week we held our one board meeting for Term 3. During the meeting we discussed the “Media and Marketing Plan”.  Which – by the way the board were very impressed with – well done Kylie and Ellie.

I mentioned at the meeting that the production of the media and marketing plan had a very important outcome.  It made us reflect on who we are and what our point of difference is. I think that we all know that we are

  • A school with a long proud history that has produced Alumni who have had significant impact on our state and country. This continues.
  • An academic school with Rhode and Fogarty scholarship winners among our recent graduates. We are the first non-metro GATE school and the highest performing ATAR school in the Bunbury region, before median ATAR stopped being calculated.
  • A school with a long sporting tradition with many state, national and international representation. This also continues, and
  • The “City School”. Like Notre Dame in Fremantle, our school boundaries expand out into the Bunbury CBD and the Back Beach. The infrastructure of the city is used regularly by our staff.

This is not the sum of what happens at Bunbury SHS, our VASP program has won national acclaim and our music ensembles are among the best in Western Australia.  Our developing profile in the world of robotics is also starting to shine the spotlight on us.  There are many things that represent the breadth and depth of what we do.

Congratulations.  You are part of something special and your efforts are what makes Bunbury Senior High School continue to be the outstanding institution it is.  It is not always easy I know.  We have the problems that all schools have.  It is the way that we respond to those problems that shows who we are.  Some staff, and in particular student services staff, have responded to serious incidents in an outstanding manner that makes our response systems and processes a final point of difference.

Our philosophy of ensuring students Wellbeing is the foundation for Academic success is our final point of difference and the reason why we have such enrolment pressure from outside our local in-take area.

Keep up the good work everyone.  Have a great week

Nuts and Bolts

Thanks to Nghia and Rene who are kicking off the Work Health and Safety Committee. We held our first meeting last week to establish the expansion of the committee and set out the tasks that need to be completed. This committee has an important job to do in the school in keeping us all safe.  Safety in school is everybody’s responsibility.
