Bonjour à tous, and Wanju

Across the weekend we had the largest group that we have ever had complete the Education Department’s GAT testing with over 170 year 6’s registered to take the test. Around 40 more than last year completed the test. Special thanks to Andrew Healey and Kylie Ward who managed the students across the weekend. Later that Saturday evening, at the opposite end of schooling, our Year 12 students attended the 2023 School Ball. It was a fabulous evening and all those involved in getting to happen should be congratulated. Particularly Mel Bulman, Danelle Field and Tim Fry.

You might or might not remember but it was this time last year that we were bracing for the Omicron wave. Thankfully that is not the case this year. All stations are go for our Swimming and Athletics Carnivals.

It won’t be long before we will be meeting the Year 10 students regarding their selections for 2024. Scary! This year we are focussing on providing the information to the students to make informed decisions on their future schooling needs. For example, there is no better place to study ATAR in Bunbury than Bunbury SHS. We have had and continue to provide the greatest value adding to students' Year 9 NAPLAN score. That is in Year 12 students achieve beyond expectations. If they are a VET student, they can access CertII’s, CertIII’s and CertIV’s. All students who choose a certificate course from the BRTTC receive a $1000 subsidy towards the cost of the course.

Our range of pathways is about to enter a new phase. The notion of ATAR or not will disappear. As we try to create opportunities for students to study at the highest level, they are capable of and mix and match pathway components to create the most appropriate and highest-level portfolio of which they are capable. The Research Project course in Year 11 for students was not well-chosen last year but this concept is still a great opportunity for students to build industry links and will be offered next year with a new business partner. Skill set offerings from SRTAFE and micro-credentials from universities will also open the opportunity for students to gain useful credentials.

Alongside our: magnificent location; ever updating buildings; the integration of the city and the beach into our campus; and the network of successful students and Alumni that a student can build; Bunbury SHS is a very special option for any senior school student.
