Bonjour à tous, and Wanju

Sorry for the delay in this week’s HOTH. It is official

Country Week Champion School is Bunbury Senior High School

Congratulations to Mark Longbottom and his team of coaches. This is a great result for the school. As I said yesterday, it takes a whole team to produce a result like this. I would like to acknowledge the staff that contributed by sending letters to parents, coaching teams, or doing relief lessons. This is a result for us all to be proud of.

With only three weeks to go for year 12’s, after such a great sporting result, we now need to turn our attention to supporting their academic needs. For many, this will mean timed practice exam questions. For others, it may mean support to complete the last competency from their certificate, or the last couple of WPL hours to get their credit points or completing that last assessment task to squeeze in a “C” grade to attain WACE.

Although the content of our main sessions yesterday was heavy, I hope that it was valuable for you. I sat in each yarning circle and the message was pretty clear; it was an emotional experience. Many of you knew some of the historic facts, however, most agreed that the personal stories really brought home how recent in the past much of this happened. It is obvious that we are still experiencing the manifestation of the trauma that these events have caused.

Many of you also looked to a bright future and what we can do to contribute to it. It is a good time for us to review the Cultural Standards framework continuums to see where we fit in each of the standards. You can find a copy of it here

Have a great week
