Heard on the Hill Term 3, Week 1

From the Principal

I am filling in for Mike as relieving Principal until next Tuesday. Tina is relieving in the Deputy role.

RELIEF (with a double meaning)
I think we all took a big sigh of relief as we left for holidays at the end of last term. I wish I could say that the worst is behind us, but Covid is still lingering and we are still going to have an ongoing challenge with relieving our staff. We have some regular relief teachers on our books, and we are very grateful for them, but the pool is shallow as many are taking up contracts in this climate of teacher shortages. Vicki will do what she can to minimise the impact on all of the teaching staff with regards to internal relief, but sometimes, even members of the Exec team end up in front of classes. To help Vicki out, please make sure that you are well organised for any planned absences - sending Vicki the lessons in advance is really essential. In the case of unplanned absences, do what you can to email lessons to Vicki, or ask for assistance from your curriculum leader. I am grateful that we do pull together when things get tough, so let's try to maintain this as we move forward into Term 3.

THANK YOU
Thank you to the staff who presented at yesterday's School Development Day - Hayley Jones, Xan Ashbury, Cathy Watson and Greg Hiscox. Professional learning is so much more powerful when it is delivered by your peers.
And thank you to Craig for bringing out the autonomous vehicle to show us. It is exciting to see these new technologies in the school and to know that our students are getting to "tinker" with them (that's the extent of my programming knowledge! sorry Craig).
Thanks too, to Tonya, for the catering - yum!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The Athletics Carnival is coming up (next Wednesday 27 July). This whole school event is quite rare in senior high schools these days, and it provides us with a unique opportunity to really celebrate positive school culture. The majority of our students really enjoy and embrace the day. If you haven't experienced it before, I encourage you to dress up in your house colours and support the vibe. I am sure that our awesome HPE team will be sending out requests soon for staff to assist on the day. Please get involved and help them out. I believe we may need a new MC... Don't forget to bring a hat to protect against sunburn and do all the usual things to keep sunsafe. Go Clifton!!!!

Video for promotions

We love to see what projects are happening throughout the school! Across all the learning areas, we would like to capture a snapshot of what projects, activities and more happens during school for a new promo video that can be shared on our socials and website.

Ellie is available for classroom visits and can even attend incursions and excursions to get great footage of our students in action.

If you have something that you think could be videoed during class time or an incursion/excursion, please email Ellie: ellie.mackay@education.wa.edu.au with more details.
