Heard on the Hill Term 3, Week 3
Kaya, Wanjoo,
Sorry for the late release of the “Heard on the Hill”. Unfortunately, our office staff have been affected by illness. This is affecting some of the functions in administration. Please be a little patient if there are things that you need from them this week.
Today we will have a general staff meeting. The PIVOT team will be here to work with you on your learning area implementation plans. Planning for differentiation for students with Autism is a great way to develop our skills for differentiation for any student. Students with Autism have specific needs that we can build into our lesson planning. Many of these strategies are not only good for them – but for all students. As we become more adept at integrating these strategies into our pedagogy, I hope that we can expand the strategies to include the needs of other students. Regardless I hope that you enjoy the time today to plan.
Teach for Impact framework has been a focus for us for a while. We have spent time focussed on our beliefs, what we know and the plan section of do. I strongly recommend that you keep this in mind as you go through today’s workshop. If you can tune your learning area plan well, you will also hit several the aspects of High-Quality Teaching.
- build a classroom culture where students feel confident and challenged and able to take risks in their learning.
- partner with parents/carers, community, and specialised services in shared approaches to teaching and learning.
- respect and celebrate student diversity and personal strengths.
- independently and collectively analyse student data.
- cater for individual learning needs through differentiated learning and a tiered approach.
- develop lessons that are structured and sequenced appropriately in small steps.
Have a great week

BSHS NAIDOC Week 12 – 16 August

The Cultural Inclusivity Committee needs your support to make this year's NAIDOC the best ever! This year's NAIDOC theme is Keep the fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.
We will be making a large pretend fire out of flames made by students and staff. This lesson activity will be shared by Cherie Fielder via email to all staff.
We hope that you will promote and encourage your students to participate as much as possible. Tell them to look out for the posters showing the activities that are happening around the school.
On Tuesday 13 August during period 4, we will have a whole school NAIDOC assembly with special guests. Please remind students to be respectful and behave appropriately during this important assembly.
In the lead up to and including during NAIDOC week, it would be great if you could incorporate some Aboriginal content into your curriculum. The SBS website has a range of resources.
To show your support this week, please wear Aboriginal themed clothing.

If you want to be one of those people, please email Kelly on kelly.anderson@education.wa.edu.au – it is first in, first served. Thanks to Nicki Sharpe for the discounted deal and for bringing it to my attention.

WHAT - The webinar will offer relevant, evidence-based solutions and ideas to help you live your working life well. Over two and a half hours we will each address a different cornerstone of everyday wellbeing, helping teachers to meet their psychological, behavioural, physical and social needs.
Performance Management
This is just a reminder to action your performance management processes for this year. Complete a reflection process and book in with your line manager to discuss your goals. These can extend into 2025. Templates are in the School Templates folder or ask your line manager.
Coffee Club
Hi again!
Coffee Club will be starting again in Week 3. I am looking at running 2 groups to try to make it easier for interested staff to attend.
Group 1: Tuesday Lunch 2, Room 30
Group 2: Friday 8am, Room 30
For the newbies ...
Coffee Club is an opportunity for you meet with other interested staff to discuss teaching strategies, CMS and classroom observation. The idea is that you pair up with another teacher to do a series of classroom observations. The observation is tailored to a specific goal that you have to improve your classroom practice. We will teach you how to do the observations in a safe and non-judgemental way.
Please email me your coffee order and which session you would be interested in attending: cathy.watson@education.wa.edu.au, by Friday Week 2.
Have a great day and may your coffee be strong!
Howdy folks
One of the components of Year 7 and Year 8 "Big Days In" is study and critical thinking skills. By the end of next week they will have been taught how to use Cornell notes, Mind Mapping, CAF (Consider all Factors), Divergent Thinking and to make Flash Cards properly. I have also embedded a few social skills such as equal participation and disagreeing agreeably. For teachers there are a few teaching strategies and tactics that you can use in the mix such as using place-mats, snow balls, concept attainment, one stray the rest stay etc.
I have put a copy of the activities that the students and teachers have done on the shared drive. Most Year 7's and 8's will have done these by Friday Week 2. You can have a look at these to refresh your memory if you like. This will help reinforce what the Big Day In teachers are doing with your students.
