Heard on the Hill Term 2, Week 8
From the Principal

I hope most enjoyed the long weekend. A lot was happening in Bunbury during that time including a mini tornado in the East Bunbury region. No more walking to the Parade for a sherbet for quite a while now.
Though bad weather hit Bunbury on Saturday, Friday was fine enough to enjoy the Reconciliation Bridge Walk. This was my first formal attendance and there was a fantastic turnout of people in general, but particularly from schools. It was heart-warming to see our students mingling with others and demonstrating respect worthy of the event and its meaning. A callout to JJ, our acting AEIO, for his major role at the ceremony. For a young adult he presented and spoke brilliantly.
The examination period has finished, and the Year 11s and 12s conducted themselves well during this time. Feedback from the invigilators was positive. The focus now is on providing explicit feedback to the students regarding their exams, including how to interpret the questions and how best to answer each one.
In an earlier HOTH, I mentioned data literacy as a crucial element of teaching. Teachers of an ATAR course could develop their own spreadsheet for the finished exams, similar to what everyone receives in their Maximising Feedback report for the WACE exams. Recording student responses for each question allows a teacher to determine strengths and weakness of their students to determine the consistency of responses and identify gaps in their knowledge.
Have a wonderful week.
Reports are due in the coming weeks.
Key dates:
Week 19/Week 10 data is due.
- Year 11 and 12 data is due 9am on Monday 17 June.

Hello everyone, I thought it must be time to introduce myself.
I have been learning Ellie’s role so that I can take care of it for her whilst she is on maternity leave. I’m here from Monday to Wednesday and will be doing my best to fill Ellie’s very talented shoes.
I have spent most of my life in the South West and was lucky to grow up on a dairy farm in Karridale. My career path has been varied including being a Primary School Teacher at a Remote Community School near Fitzroy Crossing and being an online and in person therapist seeing clients from all over Australia. I absolutely love to learn and have a real passion for self-improvement, learning and growing.
I love reading, writing, craft and going on little road trips with my 3 kids – usually to watch my son play rugby or to explore our beautiful South West.
I’m absolutely thrilled to be a part of such a gorgeous school and back in the world of education.
I’m here to help with social media posts, Heard on the Hill and a variety of other tasks. I’m excited to post about our school’s talented students, wonderful programs and dedicated staff. If you have any content that you would like me to share please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Howdy folks!
I am looking at starting up Coffee Club again from the beginning of Term 3.
For those that are new to the school, Coffee Club is a series of meetings during the term where we pair up with a colleague to conduct classroom observations. The idea is to set a goal around and area of your classroom practice that you would like to refine, have a trusted person observe your class and provide objective feedback about your goal, work on that feedback and observe again. The person observing is someone else in the Coffee Club.
We also usually end up talking about CMS, different instructional strategies and tactics and differentiation.
Coffee is offered as a bribe!
We usually run in the morning but I am happy to work around peoples schedules for after school or a lunch. If you are interested, please send me an email for a preferred day of the week and time. I will send out further nagging and emails later in the term.
