Heard on the Hill Term 4, Week 8
From the Principal
Bonjour à tous, and Wanju
I have received feedback from some of the leadership team that the school development day was well placed in our cyclic calendar. It came at a time when exams are finished, and reports are not yet started. I will continue to try to “give back” time to learning areas for teams to review, plan and act. I think that with the changes that we have made to mandatory after school hours and school development day schedules, we have struck a good balance of whole school, team and individual time. I really appreciate the way in which people engaged and I hope that it provided the necessary time to get the “Big Things” done.
You will notice that the development on Boulters Height has gotten underway. We are working with the City of Bunbury Council on this development. This is another great partnership that will include new infrastructure (stairs), a six-season interpretive garden and further down the track a significant yarning circle structure. There will soon be great opportunity for learning areas to participate. I urge you to keep looking for opportunities for partnering your learning with outside agencies to make our learning real and relevant.
We have had a rest from building projects over the last 12 months with a few smaller projects going on. We nearly lost our oval lawn earlier in the term, but Jacob has done an amazing job resurrecting it from a near-fatal treatment disaster. The bottom retaining wall construction will continue through to the end of the term and will be complete for the start of the year. I would also like to give a shout out to the team who are working on the incorporation of mascots (totems) into our House system. They will soon be finished, and this will be incorporated into branding through the gym and other places.
The performing arts will feature over the next couple of weeks. If you are able to help, support is always welcomed. The P&C are hosting a Musical Theatre performance on Thursday evening. It will be a small event this time around. Another team has been working on the Music Showcase. This event will be Thursday 7th December and will be held in the amphitheatre.
Have a great week.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LUCIA
I am pleased to announce the successful reclassification of Lucia’s current role to Level 4 Finance and Administration Coordinator. This is a well-deserved recognition of her dedication and contributions to the school over many years. Her recent completion of the Aspirant Manager Corporate Services Program showcases her proactive approach to professional development, benefiting not only her career but also enriching the collective expertise of our administrative team.
Congratulations, Lucia, on this well-deserved milestone!
ADMIN DISRUPTIONS
I would like to kindly remind all staff members to be mindful when entering the administrative area, particularly the back office. This space frequently sees a considerable amount of “foot traffic” throughout the day and can become noisy and disruptive for those working in this area. We have taken some measures in the back office to minimise disruption however, the team has reported ongoing noise and disruption. Your cooperation and consideration would be greatly appreciated when next in admin.
House Leader EOI
We are looking for two House Leaders for 2024. See the Expression of Interest below.
If you would like to contribute to student leadership opportunities at Bunbury SHS, whilst also promoting wellbeing and positive school culture, the House Leader role is a fantastic opportunity.
Don’t hesitate to chat with Rory Stewart or James Duncan if you would like to learn more about the role.
There is an SRA Band 4 allocation to the House Leaders to recognise their dedication.
EOI’s are requested to me by Friday 1st December.
Thanks!
Adam McGill
Workload Advisory Committee
Workload is often the main cause of staff stress or anxiety. Our school has a workload advisory committee, which was set up as part of our focus on Staff Wellbeing in our previous business plan, and which we continue to support through the new Staff Wellbeing Committee.
Staff Representatives for this year (continuing their 2 year tenure) are: Renee Chapple, Luke Marinoni and Adam McGill.
If you have workload issues, please discuss them first with your line manager, as many of these can be resolved quickly and easily.
If you have an issue that cannot be resolved, please submit it via either the survey link provided here, or on the document below (which can also be found in the School Templates folder on your desktop.
