Heard on the Hill Term 2, Week 8
From the Principal
Bonjour à tous, and Wanju
I have written and rewritten the start of this week's HOTH a number of times. I can’t find the right place to start. As the Principal of the school, events like this remind me of the immense responsibility I feel for the safety and wellbeing for all of you, the students and the community. It is very different to work in a city school. The responsibility is large but I am up for it. I hope that you feel supported and cared for by our school leadership team.
Never talk down your career as a teacher. We play a crucial role in shaping the future of society. We are responsible for educating and inspiring the next generation of thinkers, innovators and leaders. We also instil values, morals and ethics. We create a safe, inclusive and orderly learning environment where students can grow and thrive. Your value and impact can not be overstated. It is the foundation of a strong, vibrant and prosperous community. Thank you so much.

Nuts and Bolts
School Leadership during Week 9 and Week 10
I will be away weeks 9 and 10. The Executive team will be:
Andrew Healey, Kylie Ward, Adam McGill, Tim Fry and Tina Nottle. Nic Andrew will take over the position of Student Services Manager. Tim will float between both positions.
CCTV
CCTV will be installed this week. It will cause a little noise and disruption. Thank you for your understanding as we get this job completed.
Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry
BGCCI CEO Julie Broad came to visit the school on Thursday. They are very keen to connect small businesses and industry to the school. They can see the opportunity for students to work with businesses on solving problems, doing CAD projects, 3D printing, design and program automation, etc…..
Leading School Culture – Teaching and Learning
Don’t forget to work on your plan across the remainder of the term. At the start of Term 3, we will review each learning area’s plan in response to the staff survey data.
Last week's Leadership Meeting was cancelled.
School Response to students with suicidal behaviour and non-suicidal self-injury
Teachers know the students in our school better than anyone else on staff. If you notice a change in behaviour, such as a change in demeanor, mood, withdrawing socially, or any other concerns, please speak up about it. To support teachers with this, please read through the information provided by Lauren, our School Psychologist, which was presented at our staff meeting in Week 7. Thanks Lauren!
Staff Wellbeing - Action Plan (input welcome)
Please see attached our Staff Wellbeing Action Plan, formulated by the Staff Wellbeing Committee. Thank you for your input so far via surveys and staff meeting activities. If you have any further suggestions, please send them to Lauren Dragon, or chat to the other members of the committee:
Xan Ashbury
Michelle Gardiner
Izzy Szemray
Nicki Sharpe
Kylie Ward
Kelly Anderson
ENTERING LEAVE INTO HRMIS
Please enter personal leave into HRMIS as soon as possible. This can potentially be done from home if or when you return to school.
So that the school can allocate funds to cover your personal leave in a timely manner, it is important we do this as soon as possible.
It is an audit finding if staff haven't processed their leave into HRMIS.
If you are unsure how to enter leave, dont hesitate to chat with Claire or myself.
Compass - Roll Marking
This sounds a bit silly, but..........when marking your class roll in Compass, please check the P and NP next to each student is correct.
We have had quite a few instances where the total number of students in the class is correct, but some students have been incorrectly marked as P and others as NP.
The P and NP auto-populate for the remainder of the day from the previous roll that was marked. But as we know students are often in/out of the school for various reasons throughout the day.
If you have any questions, please chat with Ann in Student Services.
The Future of Work
The 2023 State of the Future of Work report was released earlier this year by a team of researchers from Melbourne University. It focused on the work through the Covid-19 pandemic and into the recovery phase. This report showed that workers have been significantly impacted physically and mentally. It raises concerns about the preparedness of young workers and the support that is available within the workplace. The report provides an opportunity for us to reflect on our own position and inform the areas we can look to develop our students to better prepare them for work of the future.
Workload Advisory Committee
Workload is often the main cause of staff stress or anxiety. Our school has a workload advisory committee, which was set up as part of our focus on Staff Wellbeing in our previous business plan, and which we continue to support through the new Staff Wellbeing Committee.
Staff Representatives for this year (continuing their 2 year tenure) are: Renee Chapple, Luke Marinoni and Adam McGill.
If you have workload issues, please discuss them first with your line manager, as many of these can be resolved quickly and easily.
If you have an issue that cannot be resolved, please submit it via either the survey link provided here, or on the document below (which can also be found in the School Templates folder on your desktop.
Social Media Content
We love seeing students in action, whether in a classroom setting, in an incursion or off-site for an excursion or camp.
If you are conducting any activities you think are suitable for our school's Facebook or Instagram pages, please submit your content through the link below.
Please contact me with prior warning if you would like me to attend a session, lesson, activity etc if you would like me to take photos/videos to accompany your story.

If you have taken photos on your phone/iPad and are unsure of how to transfer these to me, please send me an email or come and visit me and I can assist you.
