Heard on the Hill Term 4, Week 7
From the Principal
It was nice on Saturday to read an
article that acknowledges the great work that is going on at Bunbury SHS. The metric used by The West Australian took into account, Year 12 results, number of Year 12 students studying ATAR, and school ICSEA.

Well done everyone. We know we are an outstanding school and it is nice to be recognised. Congratulations to you all.
The results were also great for the South West with four of the top 10 schools being SW schools.
As I mentioned last week, it is important to keep the 1%ers going. Uniform, bell times, following up behaviour, etc. Working together as a team will bring us to the holidays in the best shape. Please add to last week’s list – to keep the students engaged in meaningful work. If your program is coming to an end now is a great time to investigate a real-world problem.
- Provide real-life contexts
- Never be afraid to go back to basics and dig deeper
- Don’t just give them the answer
- Look for cross-curricular opportunities
- Never underestimate the power of language
- There is no right or wrong answer
- Break it down into bite size bits
Have a great week, soak up the sun and recognition of a job well done.

Nuts and Bolts
Attraction and Retention initiatives
If ever you were thinking of working in some of our country and remote schools now is a good time. The Department of Education has developed a number of incentives to attract and retain teachers in hard to staff schools in the northwest and beyond. See the latest ed-e-mail for details.
Survey My Class
It's that time of year again, when we offer teaching staff the opportunity to survey their classes to get some feedback. We offer this twice during the year, in Term 2 and again in Term 4.
The process is simple. During the dates the survey is open (14-25 November) you send the link to your students. They click on it and off they go. It is a good idea to actually give them some class time to complete it. They can use their iPads to do the survey.
The survey data for each individual teacher remains private to those teachers. The combined data of all staff is compiled into a report for the Executive Team, which is simply another piece of data used to inform our school improvement plans.
Participation is not compulsory, but it can be a useful process to do for your own professional development.
If you have any questions about the process, please contact Kelly on 78902.
Technology Committee Meeting
There will be a meeting of the Technology committee Tuesday 22 November at 3.10pm in D&T 4.
Main topic for discussion is staff devices for 2023.
It would be great to see all learning areas represented.
